Identity in the Modern World

Source: Facing History and Ourselves

This lesson will give students the opportunity to explore the ways in which their own communities and identities are influenced by other people and how identity can change over time. It is also an opportunity for students to think about the ways that Eastern European Jews struggled with the notion of identity and to recognize how these experiences might echo some of the struggles students face in their own lives or might otherwise resonate with their own experiences.
